VADUZ

One of the smallest countries in the world is a tiny principality, which is located between Switzerland and Austria. On our return from the World Gold Digging Championships, we were immediately enchanted by its beauty and during a short visit we decided to explore at least its capital Vaduz.

Being small doesn’t mean being poor. On the contrary, Liechtenstein is one of the richest countries in the world. It has its name taken from the princely family that has ruled the country for several years.

The dominant feature of the town, in which just over 5,000 inhabitants live, is Vaduz Castle, which proudly rises above the town. Unfortunately, it is not open to the public, as the princely family itself is based in it. However, it is worth climbing up to it and enjoying the magnificent view not only of the city but also of the surrounding alpine mountains.

In this small town, everything is close at hand and the tour itself will not take you much time. The main center of the whole city is Stadtle Street, which is only 650 meters long and where you will find many shops with all possible fashion brands at really high prices. However, there are also cozy cafes, restaurants, and small shops around where you can relax and soak up the atmosphere of the city.

There is also the building of the Liechtenstein Parliament on this street, where you can see the architects have fully used their fantasies and it is worth seeing. It consists of 3 parts – a Long, High, and Connecting House and has a brick roof. The Government Office is also nearby.

Our next stop was a visit to the Museum of Art and the Liechtenstein National Museum. The art museum has quite a hypermodern and photogenic building, and inside you can see collections of modern contemporary art. Probably the best things inside to see are Andy Warhol’s paintings.

The Liechtenstein National Museum houses an exhibition on the history of the domestic principality.

Our last stop at the end of Stadtle Street was St. Florin Cathedral from the 19th century. Quite a nice church with a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, in which one of the princes is buried.

The mini country of Liechtenstein and its capital Vaduz, sitting among the high Alpine peaks, looks like a fairy tale. If you ever happen to be in his vicinity, make sure to visit it. It won’t take you that much time and you will be enchanted by its beauty the same as we were…

To avoid traffic jams and parking problems you should also consider traveling by train. For this, we would recommend Trainline, which is Europe’s biggest train and coach app.

Tip 1: The walk to Vaduz Castle is quite easy and you will certainly enjoy not only the views of the surrounding nature but also the castle itself.

Tip 2: In the city center, enjoy the short walk along Stadtle Street with all the sights, institutions, shops, and restaurants.

Tip 3: The best place to take pictures with Vaduz Castle is in the parking lot right next to public toilets.
