FLIGHTS
MOMONDO – One of the best travel search engines. It searches hundreds of travel sites to help you find and book the flight that suits you best. It also includes the option of travel hacking fares. Worth to sign up for daily alerts to get regular updates on your flights.
SKYSCANNER – Very good search engine with similar functions as the above-mentioned engine. It searches millions of flights from hundreds of airlines in seconds, saving you time and money. It also finds a lot of unadvertised fares.
KAYAK – Recently most used metasearch engine that enables users to find and compare prices on airplane tickets. There are always interesting seasonal promotions and hidden features or airline mistakes. Try all of these engines and compare the prices at the end.
ACCOMMODATION
AIRBNB – I would recommend starting to search for accommodation on this website because it’s my personal favorite. Many homeowners advertise their homes for reasonable prices and this is the best way how to join this great community.
AGODA – Very good choice of budget hotels and guest houses worldwide with good rates. It’s a very comprehensive website with all features. It’s worth creating a profile, writing reviews, and collecting points for your next accommodation.
BOOKING.COM – Great website for budget accommodation in more than 85000 destinations worldwide. Simple and easy to use with all information you need. Anywhere you go, give it a try and compare the prices with other websites.
EXPEDIA – Another good website with worldwide accommodation for reasonable prices, good deals, and interesting packages. They also offer a very good loyalty program.
TOURS AND TRIPS
FREE WALKING TOURS – Every bigger city we’ve been to offers a free walking tour provided by students or local guides. These people just love their cities and are happy to share their experiences and knowledge with other travelers. It’s a very good source of tips and advice on where to go and what to see while in town.
CAR HIRE
RENTALCARS – World’s biggest online car rental service working with over 900 companies in 160 countries. It offers free amendments, no credit card fees, and a wide range of cars at reasonable prices.
DISCOVER CARS – Discover Cars is an Award-winning car rental comparison website (World Travel Awards, Financial Times 1000, Inc. 5000). Customers can find, compare, and rent a car globally.
ECONOMY BOOKINGS – Economy Bookings offers a wide range of cars for rent (over 175,000). There are 20,000 rental shops in 150 different countries. Many of the shops are situated close to airports so that travelers can easily rent a car right after their arrival.
AUTO EUROPE – Auto Europe is a large car rental wholesale company, working with approximately 24,000 car rental locations in 180 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, as well as North and South America. Auto Europe has been accredited with the Better Business Bureau since 2 April 1993, with an A+ rating.
I often look for the cheapest airfares on Kayak, Expedia and Skyscanner before booking a flight, you’ve mentioned I few more that I’ll add to my list.
I’m happy to see booking com mentioned here too, I’ve been a few hotels and hostels with them in the past. It’s handy because similar to TripAdvisor, you can read other customer’s reviews and leave your own. Great if you want to see the parts of the hotel you don’t normally see until you get there.
I’ve never heard of free walking tours before but I think it’s a great idea! I’m planning a trip to Rome next year and I would love to do this! Thanks for the recommendation!
Hi Simon,Many thanks for your feedback. I always use those search engines on my travels and they saved us lot of money so far.Free walking tours are great. They are usually run by local students and you’ll definitely find it in Rome. Every bigger city I’d say. We use them everywhere we go and always had good experiences. Once again thanks and all the best .
